Estonian National Audit Office to introduce IT and civil population protection to the EUROSAI

TALLINN, 25 May 2026 – At the meeting of the Governing Board of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI), taking place in Rome, the Auditor General of Estonia Janar Holm will present an overview of the activities of the EUROSAI Information Technology Working Group and participate in a panel discussion on civil population protection.

The National Audit Office of Estonia leads the activities of the EUROSAI Information Technology Working Group and has been invited as a guest to the EUROSAI Governing Board meeting taking place on 25–26 May. Over the past year, the IT Working Group meetings have addressed topics related to public e-services and audit automation.

In a session dedicated to civil protection, Janar Holm will present the work of the National Audit Office that has focused on issues related to the coordination of the activities of the parties responsible for civil protection and crisis preparedness. In addition to the Auditor General of Estonia, the discussion will also feature the heads of the supreme audit institutions of Israel (moderator), Czech Republic, Lithuania and Ukraine, as well as the Chair of the International Board of Auditors for NATO.

The EUROSAI Governing Board meeting is also attended by Alvar Nõuakas, Head of the Secretariat of the EUROSAI IT Working Group, alongside the Auditor General.

The EUROSAI Governing Board convenes regularly to discuss the implementation of the organisation’s strategic plan and other key strategic matters. The Governing Board includes the supreme audit institutions of the Czech Republic, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The National Audit Office of Estonia has chaired the EUROSAI IT Working Group since 2020, focusing primarily on enhancing auditors’ competencies through training programmes and experience sharing.
