TALLINN, 24 September 2024 – The supreme audit institutions (SAIs) of Estonia and Norway are organising the 17th Meeting of the EUROSAI IT Working Group (ITWG) in Oslo today and tomorrow. As part of the meeting, seminar “Intelligent auditor in an Artificially Intelligent State?" will be held, dedicated to discussions around how SAIs can both, audit artificial intelligence as well as apply AI-based tools in their own work.
Guest speakers from Estonian technology company MindTitan, Norwegian Digitalisation Agency, BDO Norway, Centre for Knowledge Transfer in Information Technologies of the Jožef Stefan Institute and the European Digital Innovation Hubs Network will present at the AI seminar.
Further, practical experiences from the SAIs of Estonia, Egypt, India, Israel, Norway, France, Germany, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Kingdom as well as the European Court of Auditors will be heard. A panel discussion has also been scheduled to map the opportunities, risks and potential of the use of AI in governments. Auditor General of Estonia Mr Janar Holm will open the 17th Meeting with a speech and the event will be moderated by Mr Alvar Nõuakas, Head of the ITWG Secretariat together with a colleague of SAI Norway, Ms Hanne Nordrehaug.
The 17th Meeting will also include a business section for the reports and discussion of projects included in ITWG Work Plan 2024-2027. Additionally, a meeting of financial auditors of SAIs of Estonia and Norway will take place on the fringes of the meeting for the bilateral exchange of experiences in automation and advanced use of data.
The 17th Meeting will be held in a hybrid format, with around 60 in-person attendees and close to 300 virtual participants from the SAIs of Europe as well as other regions of the world.
Background information
The EUROSAI Information Technology Working Group was established in 2002 to enable European supreme audit institutions share experiences and encourage the implementation of joint activities in the field of IT. The members of the working group are the supreme audit institutions of 44 states as well as the European Court of Auditors, and the main areas of activity include e-governance, increasing the competence of auditors, self-assessment of audit institutions in the field of IT, and cooperative audits. The National Audit Office of Estonia has been the Chair of the ITWG since the summer of 2020.
