TALLINN, 12 March 2024 – Today the President of the European Court of Auditors Tony Murphy and Member of the Court Keit Pentus-Rosimannus will visit the National Audit Office.
The meeting with Auditor General Janar Holm will include discussions about the impact of the work of the European Court of Auditors and the supreme audit institutions, vital in providing assurance to taxpayers and EU citizens that public money is used economically, efficiently and effectively.
Experiences in using artificial intelligence-based applications to automate accounting control activities will also be exchanged. Officials from the Cabinet of Keit Pentus-Rosimannus, Member of the Court of Auditors, will brief the staff of the National Audit Office on the working methods and recent reports of the European Court of Auditors in the areas of the EU budget, the Recovery Facility, climate and migration policy and the rule of law in the Member States.
The European Court of Auditors checks all of the revenues and expenses of the European Union and works closely with the supreme audit institutions of the Member States, in particular in the format of a specially set-up Contact Committee. The European Court of Auditors is an active member of the EUROSAI IT Working Group chaired by the Estonian National Audit Office. The National Audit Office of Estonia also led the international peer review of the European Court of Auditors in 2019-2020.
The delegation of the European Court of Auditors will also meet with the President of the Republic Alar Karis, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and members of the Finance Committee of the Riigikogu during their visit to Estonia on 12 and 13 March, and the President of the European Court of Auditors Tony Murphy will deliver a guest lecture to the students of Tallinn University.
