TALLINN, 18 May 2018 – Auditor General Janar Holm attended the conference of the heads and representatives of the supreme audit institutions of the European Union “The Role of the Supreme Audit Institutions in Enhancing Accountability, Transparency and Integrity in the Public Sector” in Sofia on 15 May.

Four circles of topics were discussed at the conference:

  • independence of supreme audit institutions as a key indicator of the institution’s efficiency;
  • increasing the added value of audits;
  • improving the administrative capability of supreme audit institutions;
  • communication with stakeholders and increasing the trust of citizens.

The ways how a supreme audit institution could be an example to other public sector organisations in the implementation of good governance were also discussed.

The conference was organised by the Bulgarian National Audit Office as part of the Bulgarian Presidency of the European Union.

Director of the Development and Administration Service Urmet Lee also attended the conference with the Auditor General.
