TALLINN, 25 March 2019 – Auditor General Janar Holm is attending a joint audit symposium taking place as part of the cooperation agreement between the National Audit Office of Estonia and the Kuwaiti Audit Office on 25 & 26 March 2019. The focus of the event is the auditing of dangerous waste and maritime pollution. The Auditor General will be giving a presentation on the latest trends in the auditing of the public sector.
In addition to environmental audits, developments in auditing methods more broadly will also be discussed at the symposium, at which Estonia will be showcasing its experience in leading the EUROSAI WGEA and in developing e-training courses for environmental auditing. Preparations will also be launched for the joint conference in the field of IT auditing being held in Tallinn next year.
The Kuwaiti Audit Office is the presiding member of the ARABOSAI WGEA, which includes the Horn of Africa and the northernmost countries on the African continent.
Also attending the symposium from the National Audit Office of Estonia are director Urmet Lee, senior auditor Viire Viss and Kaire Kesküla, an adviser with the EUROSAI WGEA secretariat.
Background
The basis of cooperation between the supreme audit institutions of Estonia and Kuwait is an agreement that was signed by Estonian Auditor General Alar Karis and Kuwaiti Audit Office President Adel Abdulaziz Al-Sarawi on 5 December 2016. The aims of the agreement are to exchange practical experience at the auditor level based on mutual interest, to foster meaningful contact between the audit institutions of the two countries and to establish a network of experts. The agreement comes with an action plan for the next four years, which includes meetings of the experts of the two audit institutions on certain topics that will be held at least twice a year either in Estonia or Kuwait.
