The National Audit Office to hold the international environmental auditing annual meeting in Luxembourg

TALLINN, 21 October 2019 – On 22–24 October, the National Audit Office of Estonia will hold the annual meeting of the Working Group on Environmental Auditing of the European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI), in cooperation with the European Court of Auditors. Chaired by the National Audit Office of Estonia, the meeting of the Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA) is attended by close to 70 participants from the supreme audit institutions of 32 European countries.

The annual meeting of EUROSAI WGEA is held for the 17th time and this year, the focus topic will be the status and auditing of biodiversity in Europe. Before the meeting, the European Court of Auditors will hold a conference day dedicated to biodiversity, with presentations by experts from the European Commission, the European Ornithologists' Union, the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, the Natural Resources Institute Finland and the Wageningen University in the Netherlands. At the annual meeting of the working group, representatives of audit institutions will share experience from biodiversity and nature protection audits, and potential cooperation audits and future plans of the working group for 2020–2023 will be also discussed.

Auditor General Janar Holm will take the floor at the opening of the conference day of the Court of Auditors together with President of the European Court of Auditors Klaus-Heiner Lehne, and will open and chair the annual meeting of the Working Group on Environmental Auditing on the following day.

The organising committee of the meeting also includes Head of International Relations Tuuli Rasso and Advisor to the EUROSAI WGEA Secretariat Kaire Kesküla, and the meeting will be attended by Audit Manager Airi Andresson and Auditor Sigrid Rajangu. At the meeting, Airi Andersson will deliver a presentation on the connections between environmental monitoring and evaluation of forest ecosystem.
