LUXEMBOURG, 18 May 2021 - The Contact Committee, a cooperation forum of the Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU Member States and of the European Court of Auditors, is expressing concern over the obstruction of activities of the Audit Office of the Republic of Cyprus (SAI Cyprus) when performing audits on the Cyprus Investment Programme.

In the statement issued today, the Contact Committee notes that SAI Cyprus has faced difficulties in obtaining timely and free access to relevant documents and information, as well as experienced external attempts to influence the process of publishing corresponding reports. The Contact Committee calls on all relevant parties to respect the constitutional role of SAI Cyprus and facilitate unobstructed implementation of its mandate.

The EU Contact Committee is an independent and apolitical cooperation forum where issues of common interest to the Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU Member States and the European Court of Auditors are discussed. The National Audit Office of Estonia has been a member of the Contact Committee since Estonia’s accession to the European Union in 2004.
