TALLINN, 18 April 2006 - The Auditor General, Mihkel Oviir will attend the international scientific conference held in Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan on April 20-21 which concerns the role of SAIs in ensuring the transparency and effectiveness of managing public funds. The Auditor General will give a speech about the challenges facing the SAIs in the 21st century.

The invitation to the conference which is to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Kazakhstan Audit Commission was sent the NAO by Omarhan Oksikbayev, the Head of the Commission. Altogether, representatives from 35 countries have been invited, plus representatives of organisations uniting the European and Asian SAIs. The list of guests includes Latvia and Lithuania.

The heads of the SAIs of Estonia and Kazakhstan met previously in March this year in London, at the opening meeting of the INTOSAI Capacity Building Committee. The said committee includes the representatives of both SAIs.
