TALLINN, 11 October 2004 - Mihkel Oviir, Jüri Kõrge, Tõnis Saar and Rein Söörd will stay in Budapest from October 9 to 17, 2004 to take part in the 18th INTOSAI Congress.

The Congress will address two topical themes in the auditing of public sector expenditures:

1. Possibilities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation among supreme audit institutions.
2. Coordination of auditing efforts between national, regional, local and self-governing bodies.

The agenda will include hearing of the Governing Board activities report and the report on budget execution, election of new Governing Board members, adoption of the strategic plan and the new budget, discussion of amendments to the auditing standards and other issues concerning the members of the organisation.

There will be meetings of the committees and working groups. The Estonian State Audit Office will participate in the INTOSAI working groups on audit of privatization and on environmental auditing. The latter will put on a forum for the directors of audit institutions on experience gained from environmental auditing.

During the congress a meeting of EUROSAI, a regional organisation of INTOSAI, will be held to account for the past activities on training, environmental auditing, IT audit, and to make preparations for the next congress to be held in Bonn in May 2005.

For further information, see the congress web site.
