TALLINN, 21th June 2023 – Auditor General Janar Holm is set to participate in the Contact Committee meeting of the European Court of Auditors and the Supreme Audit Institutions of the European Union. The event, taking place in Lisbon, Portugal on 21-22 June, will focus on energy and the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
During the gathering, Janar Holm will deliver a brief presentation highlighting the recently increased risks to energy supply security in the Baltic region, including fluctuating energy prices, supply challenges, and the potential threat of damage to energy infrastructure by Russia. Estonian National Audit Office has prioritised electricity supply security as a key area of focus for 2023.
Discussions at the meeting of the European Court of Auditors will also encompass long-term energy goals, electricity infrastructure, the promotion of renewable energy, and their incorporation into audit practices conducted by the supreme audit institutions.
Additionally, the participants will address issues related to the review, implementation, and auditing of the Recovery and Resilience Facility and the corresponding national recovery and resilience plans, sharing lessons learned from audits and introducing best practices. The European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility serves as a temporary financial instrument to mitigate the economic and social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while fostering sustainability and resilience within European economies and societies.
The event will also feature a parallel gathering of contact officers to facilitate networking and discuss practical matters.
