TALLINN, 10 December 2009 - The National Audit Office of Estonia has been given the opportunity to organise a side-event on environmental auditing at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, representing as an observer the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) that unites the world’s supreme audit institutions.

At the side-event the focus will be on the audit of climate change all over the world. A brief overview will be given about the organisation and the guidance materials on auditing climate change that will be completed by 2010. Presentations are made on the global climate change audit and a recent joint climate change audit of the European region.

The INTOSAI was founded in 1953 and today 189 supreme audit institutions belong to the organisation. One of the working groups influencing the work of the whole INTOSAI is the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA), chaired by the National Audit Office of Estonia. The web site of the WGEA, administered by the National Audit Office of Estonia in English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic, can be found at http://www.environmental-auditing.org.

The side event will take place on 11 December from 1 to 3 p.m. at the European Union Pavilion.
