The Contact Committee is an assembly of the Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU Member States and of the European Court of Auditors. It is an independent and non-political assembly which meets every year.

The Contact Committee is the cooperation forum of the Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions at which issues of common interest are discussed. The cooperation between the Supreme Audit Institutions of Member States and the European Court of Auditors is not only a legal obligation but more a practical need, as the institutions of Member States have become closely connected to each other. Managing the budget of the EU has largely become a duty of the authorities of Member States and recipient countries, which means that their role in auditing the funds of the EU is becoming increasingly important. A legal basis was created with the foundation agreement as a result of this and it gives the Court of Auditors and the national audit offices or other competent audit institutions of the Member States the opportunity to cooperate without jeopardising their independence. Whenever necessary, the national audit offices of Member States give practical and logistical assistance to the auditors of the Court of Auditors on site and share their specific knowledge of an audited area.
