Accident and emergency medicine

The purpose of the audit is to assess whether the present organisation of healthcare financing guarantees that people get help at the right time via scheduled treatment.
It is no less important that the systematic and timely treatment of the patient continues after they have received emergency care.
The audit seeks answers to these main questions:
1. Does the organisation of healthcare (incl. funding) guarantee that patients get treatment at the right time and they do not develop a need for emergency care due to long waiting lists and/or the failure to recognise health disorders?
2. Are the persons who need emergency care the only ones who end up in an emergency medicine department?
3. Do the persons who received health services at an emergency medicine department receive the timely aftercare they need?
85 million euros was spent on financing emergency medicine in 2015.
The number of the patients who arrived at emergency reception has increased by 6.2% from 2010-2015 and amounts to 481,403 patients per year.
