Follow-up audit: Activities of local governments in the collection of payments for children under their guardianship

The audit "Activities of local governments in the collection of maintenance payments for children under their guardianship”, which was completed in 2016, revealed that there are serious and extensive omissions in the recovery of maintenance payments by local governments. The National Audit Office will check whether the situation has improved as at the start of 2017. We will also investigate whether the data about local government guardianship in the population register are complete.
Initial audit questions:
1. Has the local government complied with its obligation to take care of the financial interests of the children as stipulated in the Family Law Act in issues concerning the maintenance payments of the children under their guardianship and have they recovered the maintenance payments from the persons obliged to maintain the children?
2. Has the activity of local governments in the recovery of the maintenance payments of the children under their guardianship improved in comparison with the situation identified in the audit completed in spring 2016?
3. How many children under the guardianship of local governments are there whose guardianship data in the population register are incorrect, what is incorrect about them and what caused their inaccuracy?
